And everyone in our house claps and sings the Happy Birthday jingle. Marie Hull brings that price smart cake from the fridge. And Akiela and Thalia dig in head first... Somewhere in a corner, Ken ignores his consistently avaricious appetite. He gazes out the window, his vision transfixed beyond this Corner House Birthday Party. What does he see?
According to the 1998 Guinness Book of World Records, "Happy Birthday to You" is the most recognized song in the English language, As such Birthday Celebrations have served as the prime opportunity for the climax of a year of work, or a chance to smile when nothing else gives one reason to, or a reason to appreciate another year of life or just a reason for the self centered to feel more self centered. Whatever it means, where did Birthday Celebrations come from? Ask yourself, is it biblical? Is it cultural? Is it national? Just what type of celebration is a Birthday Celebration? So I did a google search, some basic research and came up which some eye opening results. The website: "http://www.truthontheweb.org/bdays.htm" offers a biblical view point, pointing out that the bible may beg to differ as all its references to birthdays involve deaths. It also points out that the customs may have had pagan (non Christian origins). Wikipedia says under "Birthday" that The early Christians did not celebrate Christ's birth because they considered the celebration of anyone's birth to be a pagan custom.
So wait, if Birthdays were so terrible back in the day, and involved murder and festivals to Gods made of stone why do we celebrate it today? Has the media brainwashed us again? It seems to me that much of this is a product of commercialism. What better sales push than to create a reason for Celebration and rampant spending potentially all year round. Or Maybe I am just looking to hard out the window an dover analyzing everything... Maybe I should just go eat the cake and say thanks to Marie for buying it...
See Video above! Is there anything wrong with the this? Isn't that just clean fun!
The facts do dictate that somehow Birthday Celebrations as a routine dropped from the sky, do you think it possible that the Mass Media has blinded us to the facts about Birthdays?
(I didn't ask if you think Birthdays are wrong or right! I asked you think it possible that we have been blinded to the facts -- keyword -- possible)
